Tubular tires
Wired or ‘clincher’ tires are the practical choice for most riders. Tubulars or ‘sew ups’ are still the best choice of the select few riders who compete or those who simply want the highest performance.

‘Clinchers’ tires and rims are heavier, transmit more road shock and do not corner as well. Both ‘clinchers’ and ‘sew ups’ are available in a range of price points and applications. Based on a compromise between durability and performance the best value clinchers are in the lower to middle price range. Higher end tubulars are the most durable and posses the highest level performance (‘sew ups’ are fitted to ‘sew up’ rim).

Shaws’ offers a selection of training and racing tubulars for the road and track. For road racing we feature the Vittoria CX Classic (These are not the less resilient CX EVO or competing other branded tires with synthetic construction). This aged handmade cold process tire features a cotton casing with a natural latex tube. With mixed tread, supple latex coated side walls, about 250 gms. with an operating pressure rage or 6-14 atmospheres (we recommend 7-8 atm) these tires offer simply the best ride!

New from Campagnolo
Eleven speed cog sets and more expensive shop tools for us to buy. The most exciting news is are redesigned Ergo braking/shifting levers which feature a shorter reach. People with long fingers can adjust the new levers or upgrade their older ‘Record’ or ‘Chorus’ levers to 11 speed. Conversely 2009 ‘Chorus’ and above levers can be adapted for ten speed. ‘Centaur,’ ‘Veloce,’ and ‘Mirage’ feature the new lever shape, but remain 10 speed with the simpler ‘Escape’ mechanism.

Della Santa
Roland is working out the production details on his soon to be offered 40th anniversary edition. These frame sets will be built in the classic style used by Greg and Bob Lemond and other top Northern California and Northern Nevada riders in the seventies and eighties.

A 40th anniversary Della Santa won’t recapture your youth but a one of these custom built classics may bring back the joy. Production is limited. We are taking orders.

Custom Bicycle Frames From Shaws’
While in what seems contrary to our interest we nearly always recommend production bicycles for new riders. However, the majority of our bicycle sales are custom built around made to measure frame sets. We believe a properly fitting well balanced custom will always give higher performance under a more experienced cyclist. A fast comfortable ride often can cost less than many stock high end production frame sets.
