Della Santa
The impact of the American renaissance of road cycling known as the "bike boom" was a national phenomena by 1970. The boom was going strong about 5 years earlier in the Bay Area. Racing was organized with a district including the Northern California Northern Nevada. The Northern "Silver State" was part of the leading edge of the emerging road racing culture. In 1970 Roland Della Santa began to build bicycle frames in Reno. Roland's well designed, well crafted frames quickly gained a excellent reputation in the Nor Cal/Nev. racing community.
Many top regional and national level riders raced and trained on Della Santas. The most famous of these was three time Tour of France winner Greg Lemond.
Roland builds with steel using a variety of shapes and gauges to carefully match the rider correctly to his frames. Prices are very reasonable considering the quality.
Fuso
The Fuso represents over 40 years of design and hand built cycling pedigree. Originally designed and built by the legendary British-American builder Dave Moulton, the Fuso’s rock solid performance was developed in the 60’s and 70s with feedback from English elite riders and continental pros. While in Great Britain, Dave’s bikes were used by the British National team and were always found in the pro pelotons at the great tours, classics and world championships. He was retained by Reynolds to build the prototype frames of 753 tubing which were tested in the Tour de France. An acknowledgment by that era’s top tubing supplier of his status as Britain's leading frame builder. Dave left England in the early 1970’s acknowledged as one of the few true master builders in the cycling world and the English speaking world’s leading designer. Dave Moulton design influences are seen in many of the top American frames available today.
The Fuso is built by Dave’s former apprentice and master builder in his own right Russell Denny. Steel frame sets are built lugged, filet brazed or tig welded out of appropriate tubing from columbus, reynolds, deddaci, and others (as one would pick fabric for a tailored suit). Russ is highly respected by his peers for his clean efficient fillets. All Fusos are made to measure in steel or aluminum. Frame sets are offered for all road cycling disciplines. Shaws’ has supplied Fusos from 44 cm (650c) to 73 cm as well as specialty designed frames used in the Hawaii Iron man, Race Across America and numerous regional and national championships.
The Fuso road frame is the perfect all around frame. With a high bottom bracket and a stiff backbone the Fuso is at home sprinting around corners in a criterium while it’s balance, compliance and Dave Moulton design allows the rider to negotiate with confidence the twisting washboard descents found here in the San Francisco Bay Area. Built and painted in Southern California Pricing is moderate with delivery usually under 10 weeks.
